a gold medal at Olympics. How many of us are aware of the percentage of gold
used to make these medals?
For the last 2012 Olympics Games in London, the medals are the largest of any in
Summer Olympic history, weighing in at 400 grams for the gold medal. Of this
400 grams, 394 grams is sterling silver (364.45 grams silver / 29.55 grams copper) with 6 grams of 24 karat gold plating.
This year, 2016, Brazil will host the next Summer Olympics games.
